Harrogate hospital reports four coronavirus deaths

Four more patients who tested positive for coronavirus have died at Harrogate District Hospital.

Three of the patients died on Tuesday and the fourth on Wednesday. It takes the hospital’s total number of covid deaths up to 175 since the start of the pandemic, according to NHS data.

The hospital revealed yesterday that it is now caring for 17 coronavirus patients, down from 42 patients the week before.

Since the start of the pandemic it has admitted 800 coronavirus positive patients and discharged 575.

Government data also released today shows how the Harrogate district has added just nine more coronavirus cases today, taking that total to 7,428 so far.

Cases have been low in recent weeks which means that the seven-day rate has also come down.

The Harrogate district now has a seven-day case rate of 45 per 100,000 population which slightly above the North Yorkshire average of 42.

However, the Harrogate district is below the England average which currently sits at 58 per 100,000.

More than 1,000 coronavirus deaths in North Yorkshire

North Yorkshire has recorded more than 1,000 coronavirus deaths since the start of the pandemic.

Latest figures make grim reading for those on the frontline leading the fight against the virus.

So far, 1,006 have people have died after testing positive for coronavirus in the county.

Local health leaders revealed the news at a press briefing of the North Yorkshire Local Resilience Forum, a partnership of emergency agencies, today.

It also comes as the Harrogate district recorded just a further 18 coronavirus cases today. The daily figure has dropped significantly from early January.

The total number of reported coronavirus cases in the Harrogate district is now at 6,928.

As a result, the seven-day rate for the Harrogate district is now 121 while North Yorkshire’s rate as a whole is 123 per 100,000.

Harrogate District Hospital has not reported any coronavirus deaths today but reported one yesterday. 141 people have died after a positive test at the hospital so far.

Richard Webb, the corporate director for health and adult services at North Yorkshire County Council, said:

“Today we are starting with another milestone, with the latest figures from yesterday. 1,006 people have died from coronavirus in North Yorkshire.

“We want to remember those 1,006 people and offer our condolences to their loved ones.

“While we are seeing improvements in infection rates they still remain high. The best way we can help those in the NHS is by following the hands, face, space guidance.”

Hospitals across North Yorkshire are still under more pressure now than at any point during the first wave of the pandemic.

There are 343 coronavirus patients across the county’s hospitals. 44 of those are in intensive care but there may be others on ventilators in general care.

Harrogate District Hospital currently has 61 coronavirus patients, which is a reduction of three patients from last week.

The hospital has been treating a record amount of covid patients.

David Mattinson, medical registrar on one of Harrogate District Hospital’s covid wards, tweeted recently that it had been “exceptionally busy” since Christmas and urged people to stay at home.

Harrogate hospital reports 100th coronavirus death

Harrogate District Hospital today recorded its 100th coronavirus death since the start of the pandemic.

The grim milestone comes on the day England ended its second lockdown.

The hospital reported its first coronavirus death on March 16.

NHS England figures out this afternoon revealed the latest death happened at the hospital on Monday.

The hospital is currently caring for 22 coronavirus patients, which is nine fewer than the same time last week.

North Yorkshire is well below the England seven-day average rate of infection at 107 per 100,000 people, compared to 154 per 100,000 nationally.

The Harrogate district has the lowest rate in North Yorkshire at 92 per 100,000. Selby is the highest with 134.6 per 100,000.

 

Eight new covid cases in the Harrogate district

A further eight positive cases of coronavirus have been confirmed in the Harrogate district in the last 24 hours.

Today’s figures from Public Health England take the total number of cases in the district since the start of the pandemic to 982.

This is the first weekend bars and restaurants in England will have to close by 10pm. Boris Johnson announced the curfew in an attempt to prevent further increases in cases.

Yesterday, further restrcitions were announced for Leeds. Household mixing within houses and gardens is now banned and socialising in indoor venues such as pubs is strongly advised against.

No coronavirus deaths at Harrogate hospital for a month

Today is the first time that Harrogate District Hospital has gone a full month without reporting a single coronavirus death.

It has been a long road to this point. The hospital reported its first covid-19 death on March 20 and the most recent – the 82nd – on July 19. That patient died four days earlier on July 15.

The district hospital said at the end of July that it had no coronavirus positive patients for the first time since the start of the pandemic. It has not revealed since whether it has taken on any new patients.

This is the longest time that the hospital has gone without reporting a coronavirus death. The second longest time was for 16 days at the start of July.

Now Harrogate and District NHS Foundation Trust faces a different challenge. The trust is trying to get as many people as possible to sign up to the local coronavirus vaccine trial.

Despite there being no coronavirus deaths for a month the NHS has extended its contract to keep NHS Nightingale Yorkshire and the Humber as a hospital until March 2021.

That move may not have gone down well with those in the events and hospitality sector locally but the NHS wants to stay prepared in case a second wave hits in winter.

Harrogate district care homes report one more coronavirus death

Harrogate district care homes have reported one more coronavirus death in the latest weekly figures – meaning they have reported three deaths in four weeks.

Office for National Statistics (ONS) figures today, which cover up until July 31, show that care homes across the district have reported 107 deaths where coronavirus is the cause of death.

The figures also reveal that there have been five deaths at home, one death at a hospice, and two more deaths at “other communal establishments”, since the start of the outbreak.

Meanwhile, Harrogate District NHS Foundation Trust remains at 82 coronavirus deaths. The coronavirus positive death happened there on July 15.

The hospital reported a couple of weeks ago that it did not have any coronavirus patients. For that reason, the Stray Ferret paused its daily reporting of the coronavirus statistics.

However, this week’s ONS data revealed that there have been seven extra deaths at the hospital where covid is mentioned on the death certificate. However, they are not part of the official statistics, which only include cases where the virus is the cause of death.

No coronavirus deaths at Harrogate hospital for two weeks

Harrogate District Hospital has not reported any coronavirus deaths for the last two weeks.

It is the second-longest time the hospital has not reported any coronavirus deaths since the pandemic began, highlighting how the number of deaths has slowed in recent weeks.

The hospital has so far reported 82 coronavirus deaths and released 141 people after treatment for covid.

Care homes figures for the Harrogate district, released yesterday, showed the number of deaths since the start of the pandemic remains at 104.

NHS England figures today showed that a further 14 people who had tested positive for coronavirus have died, including three in the North East and Yorkshire. They were aged between 55 and 90, and all but two had known underlying health conditions.

No coronavirus deaths at Harrogate District Hospital for 11 consecutive days

For the 11th consecutive day the NHS has recorded no coronavirus deaths at Harrogate District Hospital.

The total number of people who have died of the virus at the hospital stands at 82.

One more coronavirus death at Harrogate District Hospital

News of this latest reported death on July 15th comes after eleven consecutive days without any coronavirus fatalities at the Hospital. It brings the total number of coronavirus deaths at the hospital to 82.

A further 8 people, who tested positive for the coronavirus have died in England, bringing the total number of confirmed reported deaths in hospitals to 29,181. 2 of those patients were from Yorkshire and the North East.

The hospital trust said on Thursday that it had discharged a further two patients, taking the total up to 141.

No new coronavirus deaths at Harrogate District Hospital

Harrogate District Hospital has reported no new coronavirus deaths for 11 days, according to the latest NHS figures.

It means the total number of deaths of patients who tested positive for coronavirus at the hospital remains at 81.

Meanwhile, the hospital trust discharged a further two patients this week, taking the total up to 141.
