A Ripon church will open today to let people say prayers and light candles for a mother and her two children killed in a car crash on Sunday.
Holy Trinity Church will welcome staff, parents and children from nearby Holy Trinity School and anyone else who knew those who died.
The church said in a post online:
“A space has been created where people can sit quietly, light a candle and write in a condolence book.
“There will be someone available to pray with you if you would like this.
“If you do come please keep quiet at this sensitive time.”
Police said yesterday three people died in a three-vehicle crash that involved a double decker bus on the A61 Ripon Road near South Stainley at 2.20pm on Sunday.
It was the second fatal collision on the road between Ripon and Harrogate on consecutive weekends.
The church said the victims, who have not been named yet by police, were three members of a Ukrainian family living in Ripon.
It said the mother was aged 35 and had lost her husband in February this year.
Her 15-year-old daughter, who had only been in the country for five weeks, and her six-year-old son also died, the church added.
It urged people to pray for the sole remaining daughter and her family abroad.

Emergency workers rescue person trapped after crash in Pannal
Firefighters and paramedics rescued a person who was trapped following a two-car collision in Pannal today.
The crash happened on the main A61 at about 10.30am.
North Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service’s incident report said crews from Harrogate and Knaresborough responded to the collision, which involved a Range Rover and a Mazda.
It added:
“Male occupant of Range Rover was not trapped or injured.
“Two occupants in Mazda, one of which was trapped. Released by fire crews under paramedic supervision and taken to hospital with minor back and hip injuries.”
Firefighters made the vehicles safe and left the incident with police.

The family of a man killed in a crash near Harrogate in the early hours of Sunday morning has paid tribute to him.
Masum Miah, 45, died at the scene of the collision, which occurred at 1.20am on the A61 Harrogate Road at Dunkeswick, near Harewood Bridge.
It involved a grey BMW 3 Series and a black Peugeot Partner taxi driven by Mr Miah, from Shipley.
His wife Ambia said:
“With a heavy, broken heart I will have to say Allah Hafiz (goodbye) to you. I can’t ever accept the hard reality of losing you in this tragic, sudden crash.
“I can’t promise you I’ll be okay, but I promise I will bring our kids up the way we planned together. You’ll always be missed because of the way you were humble, funny, loving, caring, and most of all a wonderful husband and father.
“‘For sure it is god who created us and to him we shall return. You have gone, but will never be forgotten. May you rest in peace and our next meeting will be in Jannah. In Sha Allah.”

Horror crash in Harrogate sees pair lucky to escape alive
Two people were lucky to escape alive after a car hit a tree in Harrogate in the early hours of this morning.
The car was severely mangled by the crash, which took place on Harlow Moor Road, close to Harrogate Spring Water’s headquarters, at around midnight.
North Yorkshire Police traffic officer Sgt Paul Cording tweeted that the two people inside the Vauxhall managed to get out with serious but non-life-threatening injuries.
He added:
“I am still gobsmacked that we were not doing the long walk to someone’s house last night for ‘that knock’.
“The intrusion is unbelievable and testament to the advancement in vehicle safety & another reason we bang on all the time about wearing seatbelts #Fatal5″

Suspected drunk driver hits two cars and demolishes wall after Harrogate driveway crash
An 18-year-old man has been arrested after crashing into a Harrogate driveway this week and hitting two parked cars and demolishing a wall.
The driver was in a black Audi A1 when he drove onto the driveway on Kingsley Drive just before 1am yesterday, Wednesday, June 22.
The driver hit the cars with such force he reportedly damaged the garage door behind them too.
He attempted to flee the scene but, with the arrival of other officers and a police dog, a man matching his description was found nearby.
An 18-year-old was arrested on suspicion of drink driving, and has since been released under investigation while the investigation continues.

Harrogate firefighters free elderly woman from car after crash
An elderly woman had to be freed from her car by firefighters after a crash in the Harrogate district last night.
Both Harrogate crews were called to reports of a two-vehicle collision at Spring Lane, Kearby at about 8.20pm.
According to North Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service‘s incident log, two elderly occupants of a Volkswagen managed to get out the car but returned to the vehicle to await the emergency services.
A man in his 20s, who was also involved in the incident, was out of his BMW when the firefighters arrived.
The incident log adds:
“The elderly male then exited the car and after assessment the ambulance crews requested the roof removal of the VW to extricate the elderly female due to suspected injuries.
“All occupants were transported to hospital for treatment mainly for minor injuries. Fire crew used 2 sets of e-draulic cutters, stabilisation blocks, windscreen cutter, sharps kit and crew power.”
Kearby is near Kirkby Overblow, between Harrogate and Wetherby on the fringes of the Harrogate district.

Multiple vehicle crash on A1 at Allerton Park
Emergency services were called out shortly after midnight last night to reports of a car crash on the A1 in the Harrogate district.
Two people needed treatment from ambulance crews at the scene following the incident, which happened on the northbound carriageway at junction 47.
North Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service‘s incident log says firefighters from Knaresborough and Harrogate attended a “multi-vehicle road traffic collision”. It adds:
“On arrival crews found that no persons were trapped. Two walking wounded casualties with minor injuries were left in the care of police and ambulance crews.
“Crews made the scene safe and carried out a thorough search of the embankment for further casualties. Incident left in the hands of police.”

Car flips on roof after swerving to avoid deer on A1 in Harrogate district
A car flipped on to its roof when it swerved to avoid a deer on the A1 near Boroughbridge in the early hours of the morning.
According to North Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service, the vehicle left the road and one person was stuck inside.
Its incident log says firefighters used “stabilisation and extrication gear” to free the trapped person.
Harrogate fire station said this morning that one female was out of the vehicle when firefighters arrived and another female was trapped inside. Both are believed to be unharmed after the second female was freed.
The incident, which occurred at about 2.30am, was one of two serious traffic accidents logged in the Harrogate district last night.
At 9.40pm, Ripon firefighters were called when a car collided with a house on Kingston Avenue in the city.
The incident log says:
“No people were trapped, one male occupant of car was treated for a minor ankle injury by paramedics.
“Crews assisted ambulance and police at the scene and gave advice.”

Woman seriously injured in car crash near Lightwater Valley
A woman has suffered serious leg injuries in a four-car collision near the entrance to Lightwater Valley Adventure Park.
The incident happened at the theme park on the A6108 near Ripon at around 4.35pm on Saturday, April 30. It involved a white BMW estate, a blue BMW, a grey Audi, a grey Mercedes Benz and a silver Suzuki car.
The woman, in the grey Audi, is receiving treatment at hospital. Other drivers and passengers received treatment for minor injuries.
The road remained closed until 8.20pm while the emergency services worked at the scene and carried out a full collision investigation.
North Yorkshire Police is asking anyone who saw the collision or recalls seeing any of the vehicles prior to the incident to get in touch. Officers are also appealing for any dash-cam footage that could assist with the investigation.

Drink-drive charge after car crashes into Harrogate garden
Harrogate roads policing sergeant Paul Cording has published photos of a car that crashed into a Harrogate home over the weekend.
Sgt Cording, who regularly tweets about police life on the road, said the driver, who has not been named, had been charged with drink-driving and would appear in court next month. He tweeted:
“Thankfully no injuries and no one was in the garden at the time.”
He posted about the incident at about 7am yesterday morning.
