A motorcyclist was airlifted to hospital after suffering serious injuries in a major crash on the A1(M) near Boroughbridge yesterday afternoon.

Police are appealing for witnesses and dashcam footage following the single-vehicle collision, which happened at around 3.30pm on the northbound carriageway, just south of junction 49.

The rider of a yellow Honda Z125 motorbike, a man in his 40s, came off the bike and was taken to hospital by air ambulance for treatment.

The road was closed between junction 48 (Boroughbridge interchange) and junction 49 (Dishforth interchange) to allow emergency services and the air ambulance to attend the scene. It re-opened at around 6.45pm.

Motorists faced delays of up to an hour.

Any witnesses, or anyone who has dashcam footage of the collision itself, or of the motorcycle involved prior to the collision, is asked to contact North Yorkshire Police.

Police are currently dealing with a serious collision on the A1(M).

It’s on the northbound carriageway between the Boroughbridge interchange at junction 48 and junction 49 at Dishforth.

Both carriageways closed to allow emergency services and the air ambulance to attend.

The southbound carriageway has reopened but the northbound route remains closed and is causing hour-long delays.

North Yorkshire Police is advising motorists to avoid the area if possible, saying the northbound carriageway “may be closed for some time”.

A cyclist suffered serious injuries in a crash with a car in Harrogate yesterday, police said today.

A stretch of Cold Bath Road was closed for hours following the collision at the junction with West Cliffe Grove.

The air ambulance landed on the Stray so paramedics could offer medical treatment quickly.

North Yorkshire Police said it had now traced the driver of a dark-coloured hatchback who they appealed for help finding yesterday.

Officers are now appealing to anyone who saw a white Vauxhall Viva travelling uphill on Cold Bath Road from the direction of the Fat Badger hotel bar roundabout or saw the cyclist travelling in the opposite direction to get in touch.

“The rider of the pedal cycle suffered serious injuries at the scene and was taken to hospital for medical treatment following the incident at around 1.40pm on Friday.

A man in his 80s has died after a three-car collision on Ripley Road at Scotton.

A Ford Focus, Ford Fiesta and Seat Ibiza were involved in the crash, which happened at about 6.15pm on Sunday.

Police, fire crews and and an air ambulance were summoned to help.

North Yorkshire Police confirmed that the driver and passenger of the Focus, who were a man and woman in their 50s, were taken to hospital with serious injuries.

The man in his 80s, who has not been named, was driving the Fiesta.

A motorcyclist is in hospital with serious injuries after a crash in the Harrogate district last night.

The collision, which occurred at the junction of the A61 Harrogate Road and Weeton Lane, involved a black Range Rover and a Yamaha motorcycle.

It occurred at about 7.30pm.

North Yorkshire Police is appealing for witnesses and information about the incident.

In a statement this morning it said:

“Unfortunately, the rider of the motorcycle suffered serious but not life-threatening injuries and was transferred to hospital where they remain in a stable condition.

“A stretch of Harrogate Road was closed for around two hours in both directions to allow for an initial investigation and vehicle recovery.”

A 92-year-old woman is in a critical condition in hospital following a serious crash in Netherby.

The collision happened at the crossroads of Spring Road, Moor Lane and Wharf Lane in the village, which is near Harewood, at 8pm on Saturday evening (May 28).

North Yorkshire Police said the crash involved a navy-coloured Jeep Cherokee and a Blue Volkswagen T-Cross.

The Jeep Cherokee was travelling down Moor Lane towards Spring Road and the Volkswagen was heading east to west on Spring Road.

A police statement added:

“Sadly, a 92-year-old woman passenger, sustained severe injuries and currently remains in hospital in a critical condition. The driver of one of the vehicles was also injured.

“Police are asking for witnesses to the collision and any members of the public who sighted either vehicle prior to the collision to come forward.

Delayed works to repair Masham Bridge look set to begin in June.

The Grade II listed bridge was damaged after a car ploughed through a wall and almost ended up in the River Ure in December.

After the incident, a police spokesman said a man in his 30s was very lucky to escape without any injuries.

Since December, temporary traffic lights have caused disruption to motorists crossing the bridge.

North Yorkshire County Council said it has been unable to retrieve stones from the collapsed wall that sunk in the river due to high water levels.

Melisa Burnham, highways area manager at NYCC, said the authority hopes work to repair the bridge will begin in June in time for the summer tourist season.

Ms Burnham said:

“We appreciate the disruption that the temporary traffic lights on Masham Bridge are causing and are doing all we can to repair the bridge and have both lanes reopen ahead of the busy summer season.

“Unfortunately starting the repairs have taken longer than expected. High river levels during the winter months and the need to access third party land delayed retrieving the stone. This has now been completed and we are working with contractors to decide on the best method of repairs with minimum disruption to the public.

“We will liaise with the town council before a start date is scheduled. However, we look to carry out the repairs in June. We hope to keep the road open under traffic management and will keep the public updated in due course.”

A resident near Bedlam has said crashes on a sharp bend near the village are a “common occurrence” after a car went through a fence yesterday.

Emergency services were called on Friday evening when a Peugeot 207 crashed into the fence on the B6165 between Ripley and Bedlam.

The incident left one lane passable as North Yorkshire Police dealt with the incident.

A resident who lives near Bedlam village told the Stray Ferret that locals had been campaigning for a reduced speed limit on the bend for the last 12 months.

The car crashed into the fence on the B6165 outside Ripley.

The resident, who did not wish to be named, said:

“Locals of Bedlam have recently been campaigning to have the speed limit reduced because it has become a common occurrence.”

The stretch of road is just before Whipley Bank heading into the village and is a national speed limit route.

However, crashes on the road are common according to locals.

Last July, villagers in nearby Burnt Yates wrote to North Yorkshire County Council calling for a reduction in the speed limit on the B6165.

Loraine and Sid Hines, who have lived in Burnt Yates for 30 years, were worried that speeding cars and ‘boy racers’ would cause serious injury or death.

The speed limit through Burnt Yates is 30mph, with a 20mph section near the school. However, the section of the B6165 leaving the village has a 50mph limit and Ms Hines said more vehicles were exceeding this in recent years.

At the time, North Yorkshire County Council told the Stray Ferret it did not support a reduction in the speed limit.

Six people including a six-year-old boy have been injured in a serious crash on the A59 near Hopperton.

North Yorkshire Police is appealing for witnesses to the crash which happened shortly before 8pm on Saturday, April 16.

Officers said the incident involved a blue Vauxhall Zafira and a silver Seat Leon.

The six-year-old boy, who was in the Seat, was taken to hospital with serious injuries and his condition is described as stable.

Three other occupants of the car, all from Lancashire and aged between 16 and 25 years old, were also taken to hospital with minor injuries and were later discharged.

The occupants of the Vauxhall Zafira, a man and woman in their thirties from the York area, were treated for minor injuries in hospital and later released.

A police statement added:

“The stretch of road was closed for around six hours while officers investigated the scene and to allow the vehicles to be recovered.

“We are appealing for witnesses to the collision or anyone who recalls seeing the vehicles prior to the collision, to get in touch as soon as possible to assist the investigation.

“In particular, we are appealing for dash camera or CCTV footage of road users on the A59 between 7.40pm and 7.50pm.”

A man in his 70s suffered a serious head injury this morning when he was involved in a collision with a minibus on the A59 in Knaresborough.

North Yorkshire Police said in a statement this afternoon that the pedestrian was taken to hospital. It added:

“He was conscious and breathing following the incident.”

The A59 remains closed between Bogs Lane in Harrogate and Long Walk in Knaresborough.

The incident occurred near Forest Lane Head at about 9.30am.

Diversions have been put in place while collision investigators examine the scene.
