A Yorkshire Water van got stuck in the mud on the Stray in Harrogate yesterday.

The van drove onto the Stray to asses pipework and was grounded from around 10am to 10.30am until it was dug out by people using spades.

The incident occurred near Stray Rein, close to the path which runs from Tewit Well.

A spokesperson for Yorkshire Water said yesterday:

“This morning we were inspecting some of our pipework under The Stray and needed to access one of our manholes with our remote-control operated cameras.
"Unfortunately, our 4x4 vehicle struggled to traverse the boggy ground. Our colleagues will be back soon to fill in the damage caused and to grass seed the area.”

Susan Kerr, a concerned resident who sent photos to the Stray Ferret said:

“Many dog walkers enjoy environment and now the area looks a mess. The Stray is an asset of the town, and it saddens me to see it damaged.”

This is the second time a vehicle has been beached due to boggy conditions on the Stray.

In 2022 a DPD delivery van became stuck after trying to take a shortcut over the grass near Beech Grove in icy conditions.
