Oleria Harrogate

A York-based business is set to open a new shop in Harrogate next week.

Oleria Patisserie is an independent multi-cultural delicatessen selling gifts and specialty groceries.

The shop is due to open next Wednesday, May 29, at Cheltenham Parade. The unit has been empty since 2022 and was formerly an extension of Milk and Honey.

Oleria opened its first store in 2021 and currently has two units in York, on Bootham and Gillygate.

The Harrogate and Gillygate stores will have a food focus while the original Bootham store will become a boutique focusing on the brand’s fashion aspect, Melisanthy.

Oleria is a café and speciality world food shop selling products ranging from bread and sweets to oils. Its best sellers include ma’amoul, baklava and petit fours.

The owner of Oleria, Vasileia (Leah) Skouloudi Williams the Stray Ferret her business is dedicated to her mother and the name comes from the Greek for butterfly, as well as a place on the island of Crete.

Ms Williams she she was excited about the challenge of opening in Harrogate. She said:

“Harrogate has a different aura compared to York, it represents luxury and that is what we do here. We have the knowledge and experience about quality products."
"For me, luxury means the effort and appreciation that goes into a brand, and I think people in Harrogate will recognise us for that, we don’t need to convince them of the quality.”

Ms Williams has previous experience in the fashion industry and her parents mass produced bread and sweets, fuelling her passion for treat foods.

Ms Williams said:

“I wanted to provide the quality you see in London and the south of England in the north. It is often neglected, and people are hesitant to get out of their comfort zones. So, we bring foods not often seen in the north to Oleria.
"My favourite part of business is interacting with the customers and inspiring people to challenge themselves. I love exploring and combining flavours and it will be exciting to try this in a different market.”

The new premises also has a basement level which Ms Williams plans to eventually transform into a café.
