A third party is “interested” in taking over a former North Yorkshire Council building in Harrogate.
Jesmond House on Victoria Avenue is next to the town’s Jobcentre Plus and was used by adult social care staff.
However, the authority vacated the building in February this year as part of a review of council properties which aims to save £600,000.
Staff are now working from Harrogate Civic Centre on St Luke’s Avenue.
In a statement before a full council meeting this week, Cllr Gareth Dadd, executive councillor for finance, said a third party had “shown interest” in the building.
He said:
A spokesperson for North Yorkshire Council said that it estimates the move from Jesmond House will save £283,000 annually.
When asked if the authority could provide any further details on the third party involved, the spokesperson added:
The move from the building freed up 14,250 sq ft of office space that is available to rent or buy for local businesses.
Other buildings in Malton, Skipton, Northallerton, Scarborough and Richmond also fall under the council’s review.
