The main post office in Harrogate, which is located in WH Smith in the Victoria Shopping Centre, closed yesterday after all staff members were off sick.

Customers arrived to be greeted by a notice, which said the branch was temporarily closed due to "unforeseen circumstances”.

A Stray Ferret reader contacted us yesterday to say she tried to visit but was told by a member of staff at WH Smith that “all five staff were off due to illness”.

She added:

“The staff member said two had been in this morning, one was on holiday and came in on request, but was also sick so they both had to leave.”

The Stray Ferret contacted Post Office Ltd to find out more. A spokesperson said last night:

“Due to exceptional unforeseen circumstances Harrogate Post Office has been short staffed and was temporarily closed for a short period and will reopen tomorrow. We apologise for the inconvenience this has caused customers.”

The statement added the building would reopen today.
