The phrase of the week was 'daytime disco' — something I was hitherto unfamiliar with. But our article on Harrogate bar Montey's holding one of these events, at which us older folk party during the day and go home in time for Saturday night TV (or the Stray Ferret daily bulletin) whipped up a frenzy on our Facebook page. There were almost 400 comments the last time I looked — the event in a fortnight could be busy and maybe not that pretty!
The visit of the week was by Prime Minister Rishi Sunak, who accompanied Harrogate and Knaresborough MP Andrew Jones around the Harrogate Bus Company's Starbeck bus depot and then Harrogate Neighbours' day care centre. Starbeck has now had the distinction of visits by the Champions League trophy and the PM within the last month.
The following day I visited the Taylor Wimpey public consultation event about the housebuilder's plans for 402 homes. There's been a bewildering amount of new homes along the A59 just outside Knaresborough so I wrote this article trying to explain what's going on. Also in Knaresborough, did you read about the motorist who reported himself for drink-driving?
On Thursday night I attended the campaign group Save Rotary Wood's meeting in Harrogate at which people stepped-up plans to resist Harrogate Spring Water's plans to fell 450 trees in the Pinewoods so it can expand its bottling plant. This is going to be a big story in the weeks ahead as the issue goes before North Yorkshire Council.
In Ripon, it was good to see the refurbished Yorkshire Trading reopen to big crowds and to hear the former Intrim gym unit above it to be reopen as a yoga and karate studio.
