A Harrogate taxi firm is offering 20% discounts off the first two rides each new customer books through its app.

Dash Taxis has introduced the offer – which will only run through January – to encourage more people to download the Dash Request A Ride app, which is free to download on Google Play or the Apple Store.

Manager Billy Iqbal said:

“A lot of customers prefer to use the app – it's a faster process and puts more control in your hands.
“It’s based on GPS routing, so as soon as you open the app, it picks up your location and can quote you a fare.
“It sends you a notification when the driver is on their way, including their name and a description of their car, so it’s safe. It sends you another notification when the car is outside waiting, and then a third once the journey is complete.
“Payment is made securely using a bank card, Google or Apple Pay, and pricing is up-front, so the price the app quotes is the price you pay.”

Dash Cars is owned by York Cars Taxis, which has been using its own app for some time. More than 65,000 people – around two thirds of the York company’s customers – use the app, and many have given feedback that the process is quicker and more efficient.

But whereas the York Cars app can only be used to book taxis within York, the Dash app has far greater reach, and can be used to book taxis rights across the Harrogate district, as well as in Wetherby, Northallerton, Easingwold, Malton, Pickering and many other places across North Yorkshire.

What’s more, later this year Dash, which is based on Claro Road, plans to introduce a loyalty point system, where app-users can take advantage of promotions and rewards, such as Amazon vouchers.

Billy said:

“With the app, we offer seamless, cashless rides which makes it all hassle-free.
“Regardless of when and where customers need us, we’ll be there.”

Customers can claim their 20% discount by using the codes Dash1 and Dash2 – but these can only be used when booking a taxi through the Dash app.
