The rollout of the new blue-lidded recycling bins is well underway across the Harrogate district.
North Yorkshire Council revealed last year it would spend £500,000 on an extension to the scheme, which was trialled by 12,000 residents after the former Harrogate Borough Council launched the initiative in May 2022.
The bins, which are the same size as refuse wheelie bins (240-litres deep), are replacing multiple recycling boxes.
The Stray Ferret contacted the council to ask for an update on the rollout after hearing nothing for several months.
Karl Battersby, the council’s corporate director of environment, said:
The 2022 trial was launched shortly after the Stray Ferret highlighted local residents’ concerns about the amount of recycling left out for collection being blown across the streets.
People called for more stable bins to be installed as a result.
The new blue-lidded bins are used for glass bottles and jars, tin cans, foil, food and drink cartons, plastic bottles and tubs.
However, blue bags used to recycle paper, card and cardboard are still being used.

The Stray Ferret last week asked our social media followers for their verdicts on the recycling bins, which generated mixed responses.
