An 18-year-old man was airlifted to hospital with serious injuries following a two-vehicle collision at Moor Monkton.
The man, who was a back seat passenger in a white Mazda 2, had to be extracted from the vehicle by firefighters.
Two other males from this vehicle, the 18-year-old driver and a 17-year-old front seat passenger, sustained what are believed to be minor injuries.
North Yorkshire Police today appealed for witnesses to the incident, which took place yesterday at 9.18am on Friday, December 15. It occurred on Marston Lane, between the junctions of Green Lane and Atterwith Lane.
The road is located off the A59 to York.
The crash involved the Mazda, which was heading south, and a grey Volkswagen Touareg SUV that was heading north.
The driver of the Volkswagen, a 33-year-old woman, suffered minor injuries. The three-year-old child in the vehicle was uninjured.
The stretch of road remained closed until 4.45pm while collision investigators worked at the scene and to allow both vehicles to be recovered.
Today’s police statement said:
“In support of the investigation, police are urging witnesses to the collision and motorists with relevant dashcam footage to come forward as soon as possible.
“Officers also want to hear from anyone who may have noticed either the white Mazda 2 or the grey Volkswagen Touareg prior to the incident.”

Harrogate schoolboys crash: man appears in court
A man appeared in court today charged with causing serious injuries to two Harrogate schoolboys while driving.
Benjamin Oakes, 46, of Tewit Well Avenue in Harrogate, is accused of careless / inconsiderate driving of a Vauxhall Astra on Yew Tree Lane on February 2 this year.
Two 15-year-old Rossett School students, who were walking to school at the time, had to be rushed to hospital following a collision, which occurred at 8.46am.
Today’s brief hearing at Harrogate Magistrates Court was adjourned when it emerged Mr Oakes was only made aware of proceedings yesterday due to a postal problem.
Prosecuting, Melanie Ibbotson said the papers involved in the case were “extensive” and she had no objection to the defence lawyer’s request for an adjournment.
The case is now due to be heard in Harrogate on August 11, when Mr Oakes is expected to enter a plea.

Man charged over collision that seriously injured two Harrogate teenagers
A man has been charged in connection with a collision on Yew Tree Lane in Harrogate that left two teenagers seriously injured.
The 15-year-old Rossett School students who were walking to school at the time, were taken to hospital following the collision at 8.46am on February 2.
Benjamin Oakes, 46, of Tewit Well Avenue, Harrogate has been charged with two counts of causing serious injury by careless driving in a Vauxhall Astra.
He is due to appear at Harrogate Magistrates Court this morning.
Police said a second man who was interviewed under caution will face no further action.

A woman has been left with serious injuries after a collision between two vehicles in Studley Roger near Ripon.
A white Citroen car and a white Volkswagen Crafter van were travelling in opposite directions on Limekiln Bank when they collided at around 2.05pm on Monday.
The driver of the Citroen suffered serious but not life-threatening injuries.
A spokesperson for North Yorkshire Police said:
“We are appealing for any witnesses who may have seen the collision itself, or either vehicle immediately prior to them colliding, along with any dashcam footage.”

Teenager charged with attempted murder on Claro Road
A 16-year-old boy has been charged with attempted murder after an incident in Harrogate’s Claro Road at the weekend.
The teenager, who cannot be named because of his age, is due to appear at York Magistrates’ Court tomorrow morning.
A man in his teens found at the scene with “significant injuries” remains in a critical condition in hospital tonight.
Police were called to the property in Claro Road at 12.15am on Sunday. Paramedics also attended and took the young man to hospital.
There was a heavy police presence around the area yesterday and North Yorkshire Police has urged people not to speculate on social media about the incident.
At the time, Detective Inspector Nichola Holden said:
“We know local residents are likely to be concerned by this incident and I hope the quick arrest of a suspect will go some way to reassure them.
“We believe this to be an isolated event with both teenagers known to each other and we are carrying out a full investigation to establish the full circumstances surrounding it.”
“Several witnesses have been spoken to or interviewed by officers investigating this incident and we are confident we have spoken to everyone we need to. However, if you have any other information which you feel may be relevant, please contact police as soon as possible.”

Two men have been interviewed under caution after a collision in Harrogate yesterday that left two teenagers in hospital.
The men, both aged in their 40s, were the drivers of the Ford Ranger van that collided with a wall on Yew Tree Lane, and of the Vauxhall Astra also involved in the incident.
Both had remained at the scene yesterday to help police with their investigations, along with the driver of a Ford Fiesta, who has not been interviewed under caution.
The two 15-year-old boys who were injured remain in hospital today, North Yorkshire Police has confirmed.
A spokesperson for the force said:
“Officers investigating the collision are continuing to appeal for anyone who witnessed the collision or who has a dashcam and was travelling in the area around the time of the collision to come forward.
“Members of the public should contact 101 and quote reference number 12230019910.”
The incident happened yesterday morning around 8.45am.
The boys, both pupils at Rossett School, were both walking along Yew Tree Lane and were left with serious injuries.
Nearby pupils rushed to the scene before Ashville College staff provided first aid until emergency services arrived.
The boys were taken to hospital by road ambulance. Police have not provided any further update on their condition.
