A Harrogate man has been jailed after spitting on a pensioner’s head at Leeds train station.
Aaron Peter Wilson, 43, of Hookstone Road, was found guilty of assault and jailed for four weeks.
York Magistrates Court heard how, on Sunday, September 25, Wilson started shouting aggressively at the 66-year-old victim and his wife as they walked past him.
Wilson continued to shout at the couple after they ignored him.
The victim turned around and told Wilson to go away. After this then spat at the victim’s head.

A security guard at the station contacted British Transport Police. When they attended Wilson became increasingly aggressive towards them and was arrested.
Investigating officer PC Anthony Sutcliffe said:
“This was a disgusting and unprovoked attack on a gentleman and his wife who were just minding their own business making their way across the station.
“We will never tolerate behaviour like this and Wilson must now realise the implications of his outburst.

“In an emergency always call 999.”
Wilson was also ordered to pay £75 compensation.

The delays and cancellations are expected to continue until 12pm and possibly longer, Northern said.
Emergency services attended the incident which happened at around 7am this morning near Leeds.
A statement from Northern said:
“Due to the emergency services dealing with an incident between Leeds and Harrogate all lines are blocked.
“Train services running through these stations will be cancelled or delayed. Disruption is expected until 12:00 19/04.”

The LNER (London North Eastern Railway) tweeted:
“It is with great sadness to report due to a person being hit by a train.
“A bus replacement is available for customers travelling onwards to #Horsforth and #Harrogate. Please see station staff on arrival at #Leeds.”
Rail replacement buses are currently running from Harrogate to Horsforth. The journey times are expected to increase by 30 minutes due to the incident.
Northern tickets will also be accepted between York and Leeds on Transpennine Express Services.

Bus replacement on Harrogate trains to Leeds on Sunday
Rail passengers on the Harrogate to Leeds line will have to use a bus replacement service on Sunday.
Network Rail has announced work to install new overhead line equipment and signals will cause disruption after the last train on Saturday and continue throughout Sunday.
Normal service will resume on Monday, which is a bank holiday.
It means trains will terminate at Horsforth, and replacement buses will operate between there and Leeds station all day on Sunday.
Trains from Harrogate to York will run as normal.
The replacement buses will pick up and drop off passengers on New Station Street, in front of Leeds station.
Passengers are advised to plan ahead and check their journey with National Rail enquiries.
