Fire has caused widespread damage to a house and garage in Starbeck this morning.
The blaze is believed to have started in the garage of the property on Avenue Close, off High Street.
Crews from Harrogate, Knaresborough, Wetherby and Moortown, along with the aerial ladder platform from Harrogate, battled the fire.
Harrogate watch manager Nev Scott said crews were mobilised at 9.52am to what he described as a “significant fire”.
Mr Scott said:
“The fire has significantly affected one two-storey property, and there is smoke damage to a neighbouring property.
“The work of the crews has prevented the fire spreading to an adjacent property. Crews will continue to work through the day to dampen the fire and mitigate any further damage.”
He added the occupants had got out of the property by the time firefighters arrived at the scene, and no-one injured. An investigation into the cause us ongoing.

A statement by North Yorkshire Fire & Rescue Service said:
“Fire crews were called at around 9:50 this morning to reports of a house fire on Avenue Close in Harrogate.
Crews have been working to fight the fire and stop it spreading to a second property.”

“Police are assisting North Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service at the scene of a fire at a residential property on Avenue Close in Harrogate.
“The incident was reported at 10.17am.”

Knaresborough firefighters rescued a dog that got stuck in the bottom of a tree today (April 13).
A three-year-old Patterdale Terrier called Pip became interested in something in a gap at the base of the tree and could not get out, according to a post on the fire station’s Facebook page.
On call firefighters from Knaresborough were summoned to Hunsingore, a village seven miles from the town, to help at 3.13pm.
The post said:
“Crew used small tools and axes, while crew manager Mark Wilson used his dog whispering skills to coax the dog out with treats and a bit of gentle persuasion.”

Woman rescued from side of road at 2am in Harrogate
Firefighters rescued a woman from the side of the road in Harrogate in the early hours of this morning.
North Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service‘s overnight incident report said the woman was “believed to have collapsed at the side of the road”.
It said a crew from Harrogate located her at 2.01am, adding:
“Crews liaised with the female and assisted her to walk to the nearby hospital. The female was left in the care of hospital staff.”
It was part of a busy night for local firefighters. At half past midnight, an appliance from Harrogate responded to a report of water flooding through a light fitting at a house on Starbeck High Street.
The incident report said:
“Crews found the source of the water was an overflowing bath. Crews isolated the water and electrics to the affected lighting circuits and advice was given to the occupier.”
At 3.10am, firefighters were called to Whiteway Head, off Bland’s Hill in Knaresborough, to make the road safe after a two-vehicle car crash.
The incident report said:
“Crews checked vehicles with a thermal imaging camera and left in care of police.”

Firefighters retrieve gazebo from Harrogate church roof
Firefighters were called to a church in Harrogate today when a freak gust of wind blew a gazebo on to the roof of the church hall.
An eyewitness said the gazebo had been used as a car port for a property near St John’s Church on Bilton Lane.
But a sudden gust of wind sent it flying towards the heavens at about 1.30pm before it landed on the roof of the hall.
He added the firefighters handled the incident with expertise and “the main thing is nobody got hurt”.
North Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service’s incident report said:
“Harrogate crew attended to make safe a gazebo which had blown onto a roof.
“Crews handled the gazebo down to ground level and made safe using tyres to weigh down. Incident handed over to responsible person.”

Car catches fire in Harrogate multi-storey car park
Harrogate firefighters were called to the fifth floor of the town’s Victoria Car Park yesterday when a car caught fire.
Both Harrogate appliances were summoned to the multi-storey near the train station following reports of smoke billowing from the boot of the vehicle in the multi-storey.
North Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service’s incident report said:
“Fire crews used a hose reel, breathing apparatus, thermal camera and tools to access and extinguish the fire.”
It added the cause was attributed to an electrical fault to a CD multi-changer in the car boot.
The incident proved to be the start of a busy morning for Harrogate firefighters.
At 10.36am, they released two people trapped in a lift at an undisclosed location on Crescent Road in Harrogate.
Then at 11.41am, a women’s walking group alerted them to a cow trapped in barbed wire on a fence at the edge of woodland off the A661 Harrogate Road at Spofforth
The incident report added:
“On finding the cow, the fire officer was able to establish which farm the cow belonged to. The farmer then attended with bolt croppers to free the cow.”

Three fire crews called to Ripon house blaze
Firefighters from Ripon, Boroughbridge and Harrogate were called to a house fire in Ripon last night.
The crews were alerted to smoke billowing from the roof of a detached home in the Gallows Hill area of the city at 6.21pm.
Firefighters wearing breathing apparatus used the aerial ladder platform based at Harrogate Fire Station to tackle the fire on the third floor.
North Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service‘s incident report said:
“The cause was believed to be radiated heat from the flue of a wood-burning stove.”

Firefighters tackle car fire at Aldi in KnaresboroughFirefighters were called to a car fire in the Aldi car park in Knaresborough yesterday.
A full-time crew from Harrogate was joined by on-call firefighters from Boroughbridge to deal with the incident.
North Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service was alerted to the incident at 5.54pm.
It’s incident report gives no details other than to confirm the fact that firefighters attended.
The car was situated close to the store’s main entrance and eye-witness reports said the site at Swallowtail Way was evacuated.

Emergency services called to person trapped in barbed wire in Harrogate
Police and firefighters were called to deal with a person trapped in barbed wire in Harrogate yesterday.
Harrogate firefighters were summoned to assist police at Ripon Way, which runs alongside the former gasworks site earmarked for the new Tesco supermarket, at 9.06pm.
North Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service‘s incident report said:
“Harrogate crews responded to assist police with a person trapped in barbed wire.
“The person was released prior to fire service arrival with no action taken by crews.”
No details of how the person became trapped, the extent of any injuries or the precise location on Ripon Way, have been released.
Firefighters also dealt with a fire at premises on Scriven Road in Knaresborough at 3.06am this morning.
The incident report said a gas pipe had caught fire. It added:
“Fire extinguished using two breathing apparatus and one hose reel. Incident handed into care of gas board.”

Village near Knaresborough left in dark over fire-damaged pub’s future
Uncertainty surrounds the future of a Harrogate district village pub which suffered its second fire in three years over the summer.
The Tiger Inn in Coneythorpe, north of Knaresborough, is believed not to have been renovated since the blaze and its tenants, Ian and Barbara Gill, are understood to have left the property permanently.
The pub’s phone number directs customers to its website, which features a pop-up box stating: “Due to an extensive fire in our kitchens, we are not open at this time”. That redirects visitors to a Facebook link that no longer works.
The property lies empty, but according to sources in the village, cleaners have been in and the pub is checked on periodically.
When the Stray Ferret visited this week to try to find out what was happening, one person, who asked not to be named, said:
“No-one in the village knows what’s going on. Nobody’s told us anything. It’s such a shame, because the pub’s the hub of the village and we miss it, especially coming up to Christmas.”
It is not known why the tenants have left. Barbara Gill is the sole director of MGG Developments Co Ltd, which trades as The Tiger Inn, and the company’s latest accounts filed on June 15, 2023, paint a picture of a business with a future.
It is referred to as a going concern “despite suffering a fire to the business premises during the previous year which caused extensive damage”. It continues:
“This is fully subjected to an insurance claim which is not expected to have any long-term financial implications to the company.”

Jon West, a Coneythorpe resident who sits on Arkendale, Coneythorpe and Clareton Parish Council, told the Stray Ferret:
“The only fact I can share with you is that the Tiger Inn is shut and for an unknown period. All other information I have is hearsay or guesswork which is not mine to share.”
The Tiger Inn suffered its first fire in November 2020, just four months after reopening from the national covid lockdown. The blaze started in the kitchen and lasted for six hours, causing widespread damage.
It reopened after renovation and refurbishment in October 2021, and the Gills marked the occasion by presenting a cheque for £5,000 to the Fire Fighters Charity in thanks for the efforts of the fire crews from Harrogate, Knaresborough and Acomb who put out the blaze.
But less than a year later, firefighters were again called to the pub, after an overheating ice machine caused a second devastating fire.
Firefighters tackle Harrogate hospital fire, A1 crash and barn blazeA toaster fire at Harrogate District Hospital proved to be just the start of an incident-packed day for local firefighters yesterday.
Crews from Harrogate and Knaresborough were called to the hospital on Lancaster Park Road at 8am.
North Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service‘s incident report said:
“The fire originated in an industrial rotating toaster, and caused 25% fire damage to the kitchen, and light smoke logging to a communal area.”
It proved to be the first of several call-outs yesterday.
Teen rescued from car
At 11.07am, firefighters from Boroughbridge and Ripon rushed to a single vehicle car crash at Skelton Road in Boroughbridge where a Peugout 206 had careered off the road.
Crews used an electric saw to get into the vehicle through the windscreen and free a female driver. who was described as “approximately 17” in the incident report. It added:
“The female was uninjured and left in the care of the air ambulance service.”

At 12.14pm, crews from Ripon, Boroughbridge and Northallerton responded to reports of a Hyundai and an Audi colliding between junctions 48 and 49 on the northbound A1(M).
The incident report said:
“All occupants of the vehicles were out on arrival. The female driver of the Hyundai, aged approximately 40s, suffered superficial injuries only.
“The male driver, and female passenger of the Audi, both aged approximately 50s, were uninjured. Crews used a turfer winch to remove the vehicles to a safe location.”
Barn fire in Spofforth
At 1.59pm, Harrogate firefighters were back out again. This time they were joined by a crew from Wetherby to a barn fire at Park Lane in Spofforth.
Water bowsers from Tadcaster and Boroughbridge also responded.
The incident report said the barn, which measured about 40 metres by 20 metres, contained straw and the incident was still ongoing by late afternoon.
