Harrogate firefighters were called to the fifth floor of the town’s Victoria Car Park yesterday when a car caught fire.
Both Harrogate appliances were summoned to the multi-storey near the train station following reports of smoke billowing from the boot of the vehicle in the multi-storey.
North Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service’s incident report said:
“Fire crews used a hose reel, breathing apparatus, thermal camera and tools to access and extinguish the fire.”
It added the cause was attributed to an electrical fault to a CD multi-changer in the car boot.
The incident proved to be the start of a busy morning for Harrogate firefighters.
At 10.36am, they released two people trapped in a lift at an undisclosed location on Crescent Road in Harrogate.
Then at 11.41am, a women’s walking group alerted them to a cow trapped in barbed wire on a fence at the edge of woodland off the A661 Harrogate Road at Spofforth
The incident report added:
“On finding the cow, the fire officer was able to establish which farm the cow belonged to. The farmer then attended with bolt croppers to free the cow.”

Firefighters tackle car fire at Aldi in Knaresborough
Firefighters were called to a car fire in the Aldi car park in Knaresborough yesterday.
A full-time crew from Harrogate was joined by on-call firefighters from Boroughbridge to deal with the incident.
North Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service was alerted to the incident at 5.54pm.
It’s incident report gives no details other than to confirm the fact that firefighters attended.
The car was situated close to the store’s main entrance and eye-witness reports said the site at Swallowtail Way was evacuated.

Firefighters tackle car fire on A1(M)
Firefighters from Ripon, Masham and Knaresborough used breathing apparatus to tackle a major car fire on the A1(M) today.
Fire engines were called to the southbound carriageway at the junction 49 slip road at 7.24am this morning.
North Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service‘s incident report said:
“Crews located the Audi that was well alight and extinguished it using one hose reel jet and two breathing apparatus.
“Crews dampened down and made the vehicle safe before leaving the incident in the hands of the highways agency.”
North Yorkshire Police later posted on social media that “the fire is now out and occupants uninjured”.

Car catches fire in Harrogate district pub car park
Firefighters using breathing equipment extinguished a car fire in a Harrogate district pub car park this afternoon.
On-call firefighters from Acomb were mobilised at 12.49pm this afternoon to the Alice Hawthorn Inn at Nun Monkton.
North Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service’s incident log said a VW Golf was “well alight” on arrival. It added::
“Crews extinguished the fire and dampened down surrounding area using one hose reel jet and one breathing apparatus.
“Crews gave advice to the owner of the vehicle. The cause of the fire is believed to be due to an electrical fault.”

Car destroyed by fire on A1(M) in Harrogate district
Traffic was halted on the southbound A1(M) between junctions 46 and 47 last night when a Vauxhall Corsa caught fire.
The vehicle was completely destroyed by the blaze, which occurred at about 8.45pm between Flaxby and Wetherby Services.

North Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service’s incident log said:
“Knaresborough and Harrogate crews attended a Vauxhall Corsa well alight on the hard shoulder.
“The fire is believed to have been caused by a mechanical fault. Crews extinguished the fire using two hose reels. The car was destroyed by fire.”

Last night National Highways alerted motorists to the incident and warned them to expect delays. Knaresborough Fire Station posted on social media this morning the road re-opened shortly afterwards.

Car turned into fireball at Flaxby
A car was turned into a fireball on the A59 near Flaxby today.
Knaresborough firefighters were summoned at 8.55am to the main road, which is close to the A1.
Knaresborough Fire Station said in a Facebook post:
“The police were already on scene providing scene safety. The fire was extinguished by two breathing apparatus wearers using two hose reel Jets.”
No further details are available.

It was the first of two serious incidents in the Harrogate district today.
At 3.58pm, firefighters from Harrogate and Knaresborough responded to reports of a kitchen fire at a home on Rowan Close, Harrogate.
North Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service’s incident log says:
“The female occupant was out of the property on arrival of crews.
“Two hose reel jets and four breathing apparatus were used to extinguish the fire and a positive pressure ventilation fan was used to ventilate the property.”

Harrogate firefighters tackle car fire and three-vehicle collision
Two people were taken to hospital following a three-vehicle collision on Skipton Road in Harrogate last night.
Harrogate firefighters were alerted at 7.02pm to the incident, which was also attended by police.
North Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service’s incident log says:
“Crews liaised with police on scene and administered initial first aid to occupants whilst awaiting the arrival of ambulance crews.
“Crews stabilised one vehicle to enable the occupant to be assisted out. Occupants of two vehicles transported to hospital via road ambulance. Crews left the incident in the hands of the police to await recovery of the vehicles.”
North Yorkshire Police has not given any details about the incident, which was the second one attended by Harrogate firefighters in little over an hour.
At 5.49pm they were called to Menwith Hill Road to reports of a vehicle fire. The incident log says:
`’Crews extinguished the fire and dampened the vehicle down before isolating the battery and making the vehicle safe. Crews cordoned off the area and left the incident with the police to await recovery.”

Fire destroys BMW on A1 near Boroughbridge
A BMW was destroyed by fire on the A1 near Boroughbridge last night.
Firefighters from Harrogate, Knaresborough and Boroughbridge were called to the blaze at 9.16pm last night.
They used two hose reels and two breathing apparatus to douse the flames.
It is not believed anyone was injured but in a tweet last night North Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service said:
“Vehicle totally destroyed. Two hose reels and two breathing apparatus used. Believed to be due to an electrical fault.”

It was one of two car fires in the district last night.
A crew from Boroughbridge was called when a Skoda Fabia caught fire in Minskip shortly before 8pm.
The cause is again believed to be a faulty engine.
The Skoda engine suffered fire, heat and smoke damage.

Two cars deliberately set alight in Knaresborough
Firefighters were called last night to deal with two vehicles that had been deliberately set alight in Knaresborough.
A fire crew from the town was summoned to Maundy Grove at 10.22pm.
According to North Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service‘s incident log, they used two hose reel jets and breathing apparatus to tackle the blaze.
No further details are available.
In a separate incident last night, firefighters were alerted to reports of a fire in woodland on Harlow Moor Road in Harrogate.
The incident log, which says the call was received at 5.53pm, adds:
“This turned out to be a camp fire well supervised. Fire service not required.”
